We had a customer ask us why we show the ip addresses of the people posting comments on an article.
I think we started collecting the ip addresses a long time ago, and it’s purpose was to notify the public that we were watching were posts came from, to encourage “nice behavior”.
Now with more people having fixed ip addresses, I think it could be a privacy issue to print a prsons ip address.
We will now study this issue, and see how many places we show an ip address to the public. We can likely have a similar deterrent message with a print of “your ip address is logged”.
Do any of our customers think there is an issue with showing a posters ip address to you, the website administrator?
